A transplant from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sandra Peterson found photography opportunities in New Mexico to be amazing. Living most of her life in the Midwest, Sandra had never seen mountains or deserts like the Southwest.
Beginning her photography experience working with a 35 MM camera, her first focus was on her own dogs. Her subject matter has expanded by far, but animals remain a favorite. She and her husband have opened a new luxury pet boarding business in Alamogordo called High Desert Pet Suites. Part of their service includes taking candid pictures of the animals as they are playing in the yard and creating postcards using those photos. The postcards are then sent to the owners after they return home, giving them a unique and personal memory of their pet’s vacation.
Digital photography proved to be a vast improvement from the 35 MM camera, and Sandra’s work is now done primarily with a Cannon Digital Rebel XT camera, using a Tamron zoom lens. She edits and prints her own photos using Adobe Photoshop and Epson photo printers. Her older brother is a professional audio/video technician and has been a major inspiration for her to do more and better work with her camera.
Primarily self taught, this artist has a gift for capturing that “Kodak moment.” |
